Skamia’s Folklore Museum & Stratis Myrivilis hall |
Since 2002, the folklore
museum is hosted in the basement of Skamia’s primary school. It is a stone made
building with view over the Asia minors shores from the Mpampa’s cape up to the
gulf of Ayvali & Adramyttium.
The
museum houses a collection of items from the material civilization which are
exhibited at the five halls of the museum. The museum exhibits are household
and everyday life’s items of the past century such farm duty tools, traditional
costumes, examples of traditional weaving & knitwear and ceramics.
One hall
of the museum is dedicated to Stratis Myrivilis(1892-1969), an eminent
academician and major figure in the literary history of Greece. In the hall are
exhibited his personal items and photos as well as original awards one among
them from the French Academy of Arts and Letters.
